Prayer is at the centre of Christian daily devotion it takes different forms, the principle one being the Mass or Eucharist. However there are other forms of prayer with others or by oneself. Often it might be lighting a candle, asking a saint to pray with us or joining a group who have a special intention, perhaps for a loved one who is ill or who is away from home, or who has died. In church there are statues with lamps burning by them representing prayers offered. We encourage people to sponsor a lamp at £2 per week. If you would like to sponsor a lamp before a favourite saint in church, please contact Fr Michael.
A prayer cell has developed under the patronage of St Catherine of Siena. The cell will meet weekly on Thursdays to read the Gospel for the following Sunday in a method called Lectio Divina, a quiet and shared way of looking at what the Lord is saying to us individually through the words of the Bible.
St. Peter’s also has a Cell for members of the Society of Our Lady of Walsingham. It meets for Mass and other Marian devotions. Times will be posted here and under the Walsingham and Events pages.
